Covering an area of intervention about 1,800,000 m², São Francisco is the third biggest slum in the city. In the São Mateus region (East side), the settlement dates from 1992, with about 8 million households, and it has approximately 30 thousand inhabitants according to the Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE-2010).
