The Bamburral slum, sitting since the end of the 70s on a permanent protection area (far north of the city), is the first urbanization to use resources from carbon credit sales from a neighboring power plant. Two other communities are part of the Bamburral Complex, namely Cidade das Crianças and Árvore de São Tomás, comprising about 500 families.
